The Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations said that on January 21, the UN Security Council (UN) held a periodic open discussion on the “situation in the Middle East, including Palestine.”
The panel heard Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Deputy Secretary General for political affairs and peace building, and Ms. Ursula Mueller, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations on humanitarian issues, presented the reports.
At the meeting, many comments focused on the situation of conflict between Israel and Palestine; expressing concern about the continuing violence, the conflict has left thousands of Palestinian people as well as many Israeli casualties, including women and children. Much of the content was addressed by countries at the meeting with concerns, such as hateful statements, attacks on schools, violence between Israeli and Palestinian settlers, as well as appealing statements. calls for merging of areas occupied by Israel illegally … Most of the criticisms and calls for Israel to stop resettlement activities in the occupied West Bank, including the eastern part of Jerusalem.
Over the past three years, more than 22,000 resettlement houses have been approved by Israel for construction in Block C and East Jerusalem. The UN and other countries affirmed that Israeli resettlement activities are a serious violation of international law as stated in the Security Council Resolution 2234 2016. The existence and expansion of settlements is even more intense. sparking suspicion, increasing tensions between the Palestinians and Israelis, making the possibility of ending the conflict between the two sides increasingly dim. According to a recent Red Cross Commission survey result, 65% of Israelis and 52% of Palestinians believe that the current situation will never end.
Meanwhile, the economic, humanitarian, medical crisis, shortage of medicine, electricity and clean water continue to seriously impact the lives of Palestinian people in Gaza. 70% of Palestinian women living in the Gaza Strip are currently unemployed. Over the past few years, the UN’s Palestinian Refugee Aid (UNRWA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Bank (WB), has been actively coordinating the implementation of humanitarian activities. , which supported the creation of tens of thousands of jobs in Gaza. At the meeting, many countries asked Israel to immediately stop the blockade, travel restrictions and normal trade in the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations and many countries reaffirmed their consistent support for the peaceful solution of the two states of Palestine and Israel, to the border before 1967, on the basis of seriously implementing the relevant resolutions. of the UN and previous Agreements; urged stakeholders to minimize, escalate and stress that sustainable peace will not be possible in the Middle East without decisive action to resolve Israel and Palestine conflicts. Countries called for resumption of negotiations for a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the UN Delegation to Vietnam spoke at the national level, expressing concern over the increasing violence in the occupied territory of Palestine; condemning attacks on civilians, women and children as well as attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools, crops and property; call on all stakeholders to exercise maximum restraint, no provocative or violent actions, respect and enforcement of international law and related resolutions of the UN Security Council; urging Israel to immediately stop the construction of illegal settlements and lift travel restrictions on occupied Palestinian territories; affirming its support for the UN’s Palestine Refugees Service (UNRWA) mission.
Vietnam affirmed its consistent policy of strongly supporting the righteous struggle of the Palestinian people for its inviolable rights, including the right to national self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State; affirming that the only solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is to establish a Palestinian State with a border before 1967, to coexist peacefully, ensure security and respect each other with the Israeli state.
